Welcome to the weekly info note!
Please read on if you'd like to know more about play parties in general. This week's question is one about the story itself - How Edward and Rose bonded.

Part one of the play party chapter is online - next chapter's note will be all about what they're going to do, while this one is about play parties in general.

If you've read the chapter already, you know a lot already from Edward's narrative and Beth's announcements - but there might me a few things you're wondering.

Mind you, I'm talking about what I know; each community has their own rules so they might differ, but most will apply.

First, a play party is (usually) not an orgy. If you've read my Rose o/s "Bad, Bad Things" you got a glimpse into what swingers do - BDSM play parties are not like that. While inherently very sexual, BDSM isn't just about sex - and when it comes to play parties some people don't engage in any form of intercourse at all. There are exceptions, of course, but usually it is two people playing together, with the others just watching - more or less in silence as not to disturb the players.

Respect is probably the most important thing everyone has to uphold when attending a play party - you stick to the rules and are at your politest, or you're out. That includes not disturbing players during a scene, offering "helpful" comments, or doing anything else to interrupt their play. Unless invited to join, you don't, and if you want to play with someone, you ask between scenes, not while they're getting it on. While what is going on is hopefully pleasing and arousing to everyone attending, it's very rude to jerk off in public (unless it's part of a scene) or to touch your partner in a way to get them off.

Respect also applies to how people behave towards each other when talking. Unless they're really into staying in their roles the whole time most people will not behave any different than at any other "normal" party. Socializing is as much a part of this as the playing itself, and many enjoy just hanging out with people who share their preferences and/or lifestyle. You usually get a very diverse crowd there, so respecting each other's dislikes and kinks without acting like yours are the only important ones is vital, too.

In the ends it all boils down to having fun - playing dress-up, meeting friends, taking a break from drab everyday life.

If anyone has any questions, please ask! You can always email or PM me if you don't want to ask them here. Actually that makes answering a lot easier, too ;) Or hunt me down on facebook!

Now to our question of the week - how did Edward and Rose bond?
If I get to write the HBR prequel I will likely got to write that in detail, but the short version goes like this:
Because she needed models for a figure study assignment for her photography BA thesis Rose asked around several sex shops around the city if she could post her add there. She met Beth that way, who, her usual helpful self, offered her that - if Rose were open-minded enough, she could come to one of the play parties and ask around if someone were comfortable posing for her. Rose, ever curious, accepted happily, and was consequently confronted with a side of Edward she hadn't known about before (they were already loosely acquainted through mutual friends in college, but barely knew each other's name).
After the party Edward offered to help Rose, but asked her not to tell anyone about his kinky side. She wouldn't have in the first place but that request got her curious, they started talking, and quickly became close friend. While not into BDSM Rose was fascinated by the whole concept (and also the visual aspect), and Edward was happy to have someone on the outside he could talk to about everything.
As we know from HBR, Rose took several pictures for Beth's book(s), and she eventually chose to switch her focus in photography to figure studies and portraits that are somewhat provocative. Rose, Jasper and Beth were the only people who knew both about Edward's kinky side and his love for Bella long before they hooked up.

That's it for this chapter - I need a new question, or several, for next week's note! Please! :)

  1. I love coming here to read your extended A/N's, they explain a lot of your thought process into creating your story and also makes it clearer for me to understand better the BDSM lifestyle, which I'm not familiar with.
Oh! By the way, I loved your 'feline' pictures of this note, they made me smile with their cuteness. ^_^
