Introducing Kira Barker / kirabarker.com

Hi everyone!

I know, it's been terribly quiet up here. Many reasons for that, one of which I'd love to share with you now!

I've started writing (original) fiction a while ago, and I'm proud to finally unveil my 'new me' here:

Under the name of Kira Barker I'm writing erotica (for now). My first published story went live last weekend, I hope you'll enjoy reading it!

My new website you can find at kirabarker.com;
there's also a facebook page and twitter.

It is not just about the cuffs, crop, or cane. It is about She who commands and controls. Come before your Mistress and beg her for more.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading my contribution, and, of course, all the other titillating tales!
Pique has a wonderful system where you can leave comments, or give a story your thumbs-up by ‘heart’ing it – and getting more of each might make the story more interesting for new readers, so don’t hold back if you’re itching for some interaction.

I will continue cross-posting all updates on my fanfic account, too, but if you want to follow me along this exciting new part of my life I'd be happy to see you on the other side!

Safewords, the emergency brake of BDSM

This is a recurring issue, it seems, so for the umpteenth time I'm trying to explain why I flip when the inevitable "why didn't she use her safeword!" pops up.

And yes, I'm trying to say something new here, and no, this is not a rant.

New project, new blog

Hi everyone!!

I know, I've been quiet of late, but very busy at the same time! If you want to know more, there's a blog I keep for myself (and those wonderful, nosy people who love to read me rant) - here:

writersplayroom.blogspot.com

Any major updates I will cross-post here, on twitter and facebook! As always, I love to hear from you!

In the meantime, I will do my best to keep the drabble updated haphazardly. All my other stories are on hold for now. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

TEMC - Grab it while you can

I'm sorry to inform everyone that I will be pulling TEMC from FFn in a couple of days.

Why?

Of late, there has been an influx of hateful reviews, and due to FFn's new review system I'm not going to let myself be bashed anonymously for much longer.

Don't worry, the story will stay online at TWCS and my google site, if I don't forget I will also put the FLAGed epub and mobi files onto the latter.

Thank you all for your support and consideration!

BDSM 101: Safewords, and the people who need them

Welcome to another installment of Daria on her soapbox! This post is for education only, no actual soapboxy screeching happening!

I know I'm preaching to the choir somewhat, and I think I've said most, if not all, of this before, but considering that I have a couple new readers who likely haven't read my other kinky fics before the drabble and didn't wade through the blog posts of endless rambling about kink - here we go again!

I hope you have fun, and maybe learn something new, or just enjoy reading something of mine that's still not my groceries shopping list!

Drabble soapbox moment, pt.1

After 25 chapters of my drabble pet project, Letters to Master, I have a couple of things to say. So, if you're interested, below the cut you'll find some background info, images for your enjoyment, and my battle plan should the recent roundup on FFn hit me, too.

If you have any kink-related questions, feel free to ask them, I'll try to answer them all next time! If you want a reply faster, just PM me!

Teaser for 'Take You For A Ride'

Like many great authors in the fandom, I've joined the Fandom4Texas Wildfire Relief, offering a one-shot (yes, even if it's in very small print, my name's on the contributing authors pic)! If you want to, you could call it Twi, E/B, but don't expect them to behave accordingly. Here's a quick teaser!

“Hello there, stranger,” she called out in a husky voice, then shifted her balance so that she could swing one leg over the bike to get down from it, forcing me to revise my estimation of her height down another couple of inches once she stood on solid ground.

“Hey there yourself,” I replied, in what must have been the least eloquent choice of words since college. Her smile flashed brighter, then turned a little lopsided as she stretched languidly, letting her tight clothing accentuate a different set of curves than the road bends to get my heart hammering.

“You are quite a good driver,” I offered rather lamely in an attempt to keep my thoughts on something else than the form hugging expanse of yellow and black before me, the seat of my own leathers becoming increasingly uncomfortable by the second.

“Why, thank you,” she drawled, then idly reached up to push a sweaty lock off her forehead. “You're quite the devil on your little devil there yourself. Almost didn't hope to find a worthy opponent among all these old men on their heavy cruisers today.”

Any coherent answer I might have offered died low in my throat as she came sauntering over, then put her bare hand down on the tank of the bike mere inches away from where I still sat.

“Do you mind if I take a look at your package there?”

Fandom For LLS

Once again the wonderful people of the twi fandom are gathering to raise money for a worthy cause, this time for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Directly from the Fandom for LLS blog:
Fandom For LLS is hoping to not only bring awareness to these cancers but to put a face to the name. We encourage you to check out the site and maybe you will find something you can connect with. ...

Thanks to donations from others, cancer research has made many milestones, but still every 10 minutes, someone in the US dies from a blood cancer. For a minimum $5 donation, you can receive a compilation of stories by Twific authors. Just click on the "Donation" page and follow the link, then email your receipt to Fandom4LLS@gmail.com. Your donations will go directly to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society who's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
I'd love to join but I haven't come up with a good idea for a story yet - but if you want to help, I'm open to suggestions! I don't do outtakes, though ;)

BL RIP

I'm writing this post to let you know that I've pulled the three posted chapters of one of my WIPs, 'Bloody Lies'.

Now, I know that I said I would never pull a fic to get it published. I lied, or rather, omitted to add, unless I feel like it's not working out the way I intended it to.

Which is the case with BL. I still intend to write it, maybe even try to get it published, and I won't change much besides the names and physical descriptions. In my mind, the characters have never been twi, so I don't think I'll have much of a problem. Why I think it doesn't work then? Because in my readers's heads, they were twi, and already three chapters in that was rather obvious. I expected that to happen to a certain extent, but you surpassed even my worst fears, and while in the planning stages the idea to fuck with everyone's minds because of that, in actual writing it doesn't work for me.

The story is complicated, as are the characters, and they deserve a clean slate.

I'm grateful for the wonderful feedback I got, and I'll keep all your reviews close to my heart, and labelled in my inbox.

For the judgmental bitches out there, no, I did not pull it because it got less reviews than TEMC - everything I ever wrote got less reviews than TEMC, and all the rest stays online on FFn, TWCS, and my google site. No idea what you judge such claims on, but in my world, 152 reviews for 3 chapters is a great ratio. If the story had worked as intended, I would have completed it. Fact is, it didn't, so to spare everyone months of dragging on or expecting updates that won't come, I'm ending this, as it is, now.

I'm not sure what I will be working on after TEMC is complete in roughly 10 chapters from now. Besides possible outtakes, extra chapters, and one-shots, I don't think I can stand not to have a multi chapter WIP going. Honestly, I think even in the best case of publishing a novel, 20 years from now, I'd start another fanfic, just for the heck of it. I love writing, and I love writing fanfic, but just like any other writer, I have some ideas that simply don't work the way I want them to. I'm sure that Hemingway had a drawer full of half finished stuff, too. The downside of my fanfic writing mode of posting as I write, instead of finishing before I post, is that, eventually, a story had to come along that didn't make it far. I'm sorry that I had to pull it, but I think it's the fair solution for all of us.

And, let's get real, it was only three chapters.

Disclaimer

I own nothing related to Twilight, Stephenie Meyer is the owner of the Twilight series.
